Neurodiversity & Neurodivergence

Neurodiversity-Affirming Therapy for Autism, ADHD & Neurodivergent Experiences

I offer a neurodiversity-affirming approach to therapy, working with individuals who identify as autistic, ADHD, or otherwise neurodivergent. Rather than viewing these differences as problems to be fixed, this approach recognises that people experience and process the world in different ways—each with their own strengths, challenges, and needs.

You might be seeking support for overwhelm, burnout, anxiety, emotional intensity, or difficulties in relationships. You may have spent much of your life masking or adapting to fit in, leaving you feeling exhausted, disconnected, or unsure of who you are underneath it all. For some, a recent diagnosis (or self-identification) can bring both relief and a sense of uncertainty about what it means moving forward.

Therapy can offer a space to slow things down and begin to understand your experience in a way that feels validating, grounded, and genuinely supportive.

How I Work

My approach is primarily psychodynamic and relational, which means we take time to explore your inner world, emotional patterns, and relational experiences in depth.

For many neurodivergent people, early experiences of being misunderstood, criticised, or expected to conform can shape a lasting sense of difference, shame, or self-doubt. Over time, this may lead to patterns such as people-pleasing, masking, withdrawal, or difficulty identifying and expressing needs.

In our work together, we gently explore these patterns—bringing awareness to how they developed and how they may still be operating in the present. This isn’t about changing who you are, but about creating space for greater self-understanding, self-acceptance, and choice.

Alongside this, I may integrate CBT-informed approaches where helpful—particularly in working with anxiety, overwhelm, or unhelpful thought patterns. This can support you in developing practical ways to manage day-to-day challenges, while still holding a deeper understanding of your experience.

What Therapy Might Involve

Neurodiversity-affirming therapy is collaborative and paced around your needs. There is no expectation to fit into a particular way of working.

Our work may include:

Exploring your experience of being autistic, ADHD, or neurodivergent
Understanding the impact of masking and long-term adaptation
Working with burnout, fatigue, and nervous system overwhelm
Making sense of emotional intensity or shutdown
Exploring identity, self-worth, and internalised shame
Understanding patterns in relationships and communication
Developing ways to recognise and meet your needs more effectively
Where helpful, finding practical strategies to support regulation, boundaries, and daily functioning

We work at a pace that feels manageable, with space to pause, reflect, and adjust as needed.

A Neurodiversity-Affirming Space

I aim to offer a space that is neurodiversity-affirming, trauma-informed, and non-judgemental. This means recognising that your ways of thinking, feeling, and experiencing the world are valid—even if they have not always been understood or supported by others.

You are not expected to mask or present in a certain way in therapy. Sessions can be adapted to suit your preferences, whether that means taking things more slowly, allowing for pauses, or working in a way that feels more structured or more open.

Who This Might Be For

You might benefit from this approach if you:

  • Identify as autistic, ADHD, or neurodivergent (diagnosed or self-identified)
  • Feel overwhelmed, burnt out, or chronically exhausted
  • Experience sensory sensitivity or emotional intensity
  • Have spent years masking or feeling misunderstood
  • Struggle with self-esteem, shame, or feeling “different”
  • Find relationships or communication difficult to navigate
  • Are adjusting to a recent diagnosis or new understanding of yourself

You don’t need a formal diagnosis to begin therapy – your experience is enough.
